The Birmingham Bar Association's Federal Practice Section presents "Federal Trial Practice - Beginning Your Case With Trial in Mind" with guest speakers the Honorable R. David Proctor (U. S. District Court for the Northern Division of Alabama), Charles Guerrier (Haynes & Haynes), Tamara Matthews-Johnson (U. S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Alabama), Joseph B. Mays, Jr. (Bradley Arant Boult Cummings), and Glennon Threatt (Office of the Federal Public Defender).  Moderating the program is section Chair Richard E. Davis of Starnes Davis Florie LLP.

Panel Discussion:  What is sometimes referred to as "case framing" or "road mapping" is, in essence, a process of beginning your case with an eye on trial and being mindful of how each step in the litigation process - civil or criminal - can inform the themes by which your client's claims or defenses will be conveyed at trial.  The process should begin with preparation of initial pleadings or statements of position, and should make early use of jury instructions and other tools, including planning of discovery, to establish and refine the themes that will provide a framework to maximize the possibility for a coherent and effective trial presentation.

Approved by the Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission for 1.0 hour MCLE Credit (including 0 ethics).  Current members of the BBA's Federal Practice Section may attend free of charge - all others may register for $25.00 fee (click here for registration form).  We will begin with complimentary lunch and a brief business meeting of the section followed by the panel's one hour CLE presentation.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Myste Kennedy (mkennedy@starneslaw.com).
