2017 Committee Preference Form - Online

Please review the 2017 BBA Committees, below, and list your 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences for Committee assignment at the bottom of this form. Thank you for your participation!
ATTORNEY TRANSITIONS COMMITTEE: Develops, recommends, and implements programs and initiatives that help members in various transitions throughout the practice of law;
BULLETIN COMMITTEE: Writes and solicits articles for inclusion in the quarterly Birmingham Bar Bulletin;
CIVIL COURTS PROCEDURES COMMITTEE: Liaises with local civil courts and assists where appropriate;
CLE COMMITTEE: Determines topics, coordinates with Sections, and produces CLE seminars throughout the year;
COLLABORATIVE LAW COMMITTEE: Promotes understanding and use of the collaborative law process to resolve legal disputes;
COMMUNITY EDUCATION COMMITTEE: Promotes public education with community organizations and schools, and coordinates Law Day activities;
CRISIS RELIEF COMMITTEE: Works to coordinate BBA responses in the event of a natural or other disaster;
DIVERSITY/INCLUSIVITY COMMITTEE: This new committee explores means through which the Bar can promote and encourage inclusivity within the legal profession;
ELDER LAW COMMITTEE: Examines elder law issues and develops programs to assist practitioners and the elderly;
ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE: Organizes social functions for the BBA, including the annual Membership Picnic and Holiday Party;
FAMILY LAW COMMITTEE: Explores issues of importance to family law practitioners;
FEE ARBITRATION COMMITTEE: Arbitrates fee disputes as requested between attorneys & clients, and between attorneys;
FUTURE LEADERS FORUM COMMITTEE: Provides oversight and development of the annual BBA Future Leaders Forum;
GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE: Investigates complaints filed against area attorneys through the Alabama State Bar and makes recommendations as to action by the BBA Executive Committee;
HISTORY & ARCHIVES COMMITTEE: Promotes appreciation for BBA history, and helps ensure preservation of historical BBA artifacts;
JUDICIAL LIAISON COMMITTEE: Serves as liaison to the local, state and federal judiciary;
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD COMM.: Recommends a recipient for the BBA Lifetime Achievement Award each year;
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE: Prepares, introduces and monitors implementation of plans for the future of the Association;
MEDICAL LIAISON COMMITTEE: Works to improve the relationship between the BBA and various medical groups & organizations;
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Reviews and approves applications for membership, and evaluates possible member benefits;
MENTORING COMMITTEE: Oversees and implements the BBA mentoring program;
MUNICIPAL COURTS LIAISON COMMITTEE:
Liaises with municipal courts and assists where appropriate;
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Proposes the slate of nominees for election at each annual meeting;
PRO BONO COMMITTEE: Supports the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, and assists in the implementation of the annual Pro Bono week luncheon;
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE: Works to enhance the image of the Bar and the profession through coordination with the media and other groups;
PUBLIC SERVICE COMMITTEE: Coordinates various Association public service projects, including Servis Juris and the back-to-school supplies drive;
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Reviews law school scholarship applications and recommends recipients;
