The purpose of this CLE is to train attorneys to teach positive conflict resolution and peer mediation skills to youth.  Led by members of the Birmingham Bar Association's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section and the Birmingham Bar Foundation (BBF), the training will focus on conflict resolution tools that include, but are not limited to, communication, critical thinking and negotiation.  The CLE will discuss how those tools may be implemented in schools to create safe environments and give students important life skills.  Additionally, training will include the role of attorneys as community partners and how they can help youth learn appropriate problem-solving strategies.  Equally important, the training will highlight the work that is currently being done through Resolve-2-Solve (R2S), a conflict resolution and peer mediation program for youth developed by the BBF and the ADR Section.  The goals of the R2S program are to give students the necessary tools to handle conflict with peers as well as with adults; to help students better control their impulses and hone social skills; and to decrease the number of discipline infractions in schools.  The CLE will teach the R2S program to attorneys and encourage them to volunteer at schools to assist with the implementation of the program.

Lunch will be served at 11:00am with the CLE presentation from 11:30am-1:30pm.  Application pending approval by the Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission for 2.0 hours MCLE Credit.  Register online or print and return this form.
