Please join us for a free CLE seminar on pro bono service opportunities Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:30am at the Hugo L. Black U.S. District Courthouse, 1st floor Jury Assembly room. Approved by the Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission for 1.0 hour MCLE Credit. A box lunch will be provided.

This program is being offered by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama pursuant to the requirements of the Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent Act of 2018, P.L. 115-237 (POWER Act). The POWER Act requires each judicial district of the United States Courts to hold an annual event to encourage lawyers to provide pro bono services to "survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking," and our Court encourages pro bono legal services in a wide variety of areas. The panel includes Knetta Adkins, Domestic Violence Services Community Outreach Coordinator and McKay Cleveland, Family Law Center Staff Attorney, both with the YWCA; Nancy Yarbrough, Executive Director of Birmingham's Volunteer Lawyers Program, and Professor Courtney Cross of the University of Alabama School of Law's law school clinic. The panelists will discuss the legal effects of domestic violence and identify opportunities for pro bono representation.

If you wish to attend, please send your RSVP to with your name and Alabama State Bar ID number. The program is limited to the first 100 registrants.
