Jointly presented by the Birmingham Bar Association and the Magic City Bar Association

August 5, 2020 marked the 55th anniversary of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.  This summer also saw the passing of the legendary Congressman John Lewis, a leading champion of voting rights.  We recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the amendment that afforded women the right to vote.  We are about one month from a national election.  All of these circumstances make it an especially good time for a discussion about voting rights.  This panel of activists and academics will examine the need for voting rights legislation, the effectiveness of such legislation, current hurdles to voting, and actions being taken to secure the right to vote for all citizens.

Approved by the Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission for 1.3 hours MCLE Credit.
